I don’t think I have ever really written a google review for a product or a brand; but this time I had to.
I was dozing off one night when I came across the website of The Basic Cotton - the brand communication really caught my attention.
They have some detailed and sincere blogs on their website about what’s the reality of the fashion and apparel industry in India.
Since their offerings were so reasonably priced and affordable, I thought I might as well place an order and see what happens.
So I did. I ordered a plain black tee and a plain white tee. They’ve arrived now and I am blown away! These tees are easily the best my hands have touched in this price range.
The fabric feels buttery soft yet durable, the fit is unisex and its completely plain with no logos, designs or even any obvious stitch styles. Just one solid, versatile colour throughout.
I can wear them at home with my shorts, I can put a blazer over them and go to work or pair them with a jacket to create the most minimal, old money style for all casual and social occasions.
What impressed me most: the tees keep their shape after washing, don’t twist at the hem, and feel breathable in warm weather but substantial enough to drape well.
I did a little digging and realised they have some amazing overstitches at the back of their neck (which is subtle so not very apparent at first glance) - but this keeps the shoulder and neck structure very strong while the rest of the cloth smoothly flows down and and hangs over the body.
Its perfect for Indian physique for sure.
The inside neck is totally neat too - with no itchy skin tags.
I love the brand’s slow fashion, made-in-India approach; and if anybody goes through their blogs and reads about how they try to sustainably procure this 180 GSM cloth, you’ll realise they’re so ethical and environment conscious too!

Highly recommended for anyone who values quality basics, minimalist clothing, and sustainable fashion in India.
